Summer Reading

Just finished North Woods by Daniel Mason this morning and it was so good. It’s about a house in the woods in Massachusetts and all of its inhabitants over time, beginning in the 1600s and ending in what I assume is current day. I loved how almost each time the house changed ownership the writing style and POV changed as well. I’ve never been to New England but it makes me want to buy a dilapidated cottage in the middle of nowhere and figure it out.

Last week I read Madeline Cash’s Lost Lambs in like 24 hours. Loved. Such a like fun and easy read. I feel like everyone’s book clubs read this last year or something. I kept seeing the cover all over Instagram and thought it was cute. Highly reccc.

A few weeks ago I was going through some book lists that I’d screenshotted and just started requesting things from the library, and honestly I completely forgot that I did that so it’s been fun to see what’s ready for me each week as they come in. Today I picked up Summer Book by Tove Jansson! I also just bought The Ways of My Grandmothers from Cherry Alive Books’ latest drop, which sounded super interesting.

Speaking of interesting, my bf and I went to the library last Sunday (highly enjoyable overcast summer afternoon activity), and I was flipping through this book on native Californian master basket weavers- soooo obsessed. So inspiring.

At the beginning of the month, I’d actually declared it would be the summer of Proust (I ordered a copy of Swann’s Way only to realize I’ve already had one sitting on my bookshelf for years), but then my other books started rolling in and I got distracted. I think I’m like 5 pages in. I might go Summer Book first bc I have to return that to the library eventually and it’s pretty little, but if anyone wants to start Proust with me I’ll send you my other copy and we can read it together!!
